Welcome to the world of Puppetello, where fur, fleece, foam, wool, and eyeballs collide! I am Megan, a maker, a builder, a creator and a vintage fabric, faux fur, and textile addict! Gathering random objects from unusual places hunting down and repurposing unique materials, coordinating colours and patterns, stitching, gluing, folding, weaving, cutting, drilling, sanding, shaping… all these things bring me a certain kind of joy that I cannot explain.

Mission
Good quality handcrafted puppets are expensive! They are time-consuming to produce, and materials are costly. My goal is to create well-made hand and rod puppets that are accessible to the average person. With the skills I have acquired over many years in the sewing, design and manufacturing industry, I am able to (a) create my very own pattern designs, exclusive to Puppetello, (b) perfect the most efficient techniques and smart, economical use of materials, and (c) source high quality supplies, materials and time saving tools, ensuring you get a top-quality puppet without the hefty price tag. I have also eliminated a few of the more labour-intensive elements that make professional puppets so costly to make, like proper hand shapes with posable fingers, or elaborate inner foam structures (which are great for professional style puppets but not always necessary for practicing performers, or beginners).

Why Puppets?
Puppets are more than just toys; they spark imagination, boost communication skills, and encourage social engagement. Whether you’re in a classroom, or any kind of educational setting, play therapy, art, drama, or performance school, a teacher, psychologist, counsellor, or a parent just having a laugh at home, puppets help explore personalities, emotions, language, and ideas. They bring fun and enthusiasm to any interactive learning and development process and are especially beneficial for those with different learning styles and needs. Puppets are a great tool to support and enhance various aspects of personal and educational growth.

How did I get here?
My puppet journey began in 2008. Drowning in a sea of unusual vintage fabrics and retro prints that I had been collecting for years, I realised that I had two choices, I needed to find the courage to cut into my precious textiles *gasp* and make them into something amazing, or allow my living space-and the lives of those I shared it with-to be totally consumed, engulfed, even suffocated by the continuous flow of fabric coming into our home. Desperate to reclaim some living space, I embraced the former option and started making puppets for my kids and their friends while still working my day job. Little did I know, those creations would steal the hearts of every child and adult they met, and I had endless requests to make more. Over a decade later, and my textile accumulation problem is bigger than ever! However, after years of trial and error perfecting my designs and techniques, I have finally got to a point where I am now able to devote all my time to putting my little characters out into the world.

So, whether you’re looking for the perfect gift for a budding puppeteer, or an inexpensive practice puppet for a professional performer, Puppetello puppets are perfect for kids and adults alike and are ready to bring joy, laughter, and a touch of magic to your life.
